Alignment

The documents in this section are specifically designed to help teachers, teacher teams, and administrators quickly grasp the Common Core Standards, with their California additions:

  • English Language Arts (grades K through 12)
  • Mathematics (grades K through 8 - both grade 8)

Alignment between California Standards (2002-2012) and California Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics
There are separate documents that contain grade-level alignments between the "old" (2002) California Content Standards and the Common Core Standards (to be "officially" assessed during the 2014-2015 school year). The standards are presented in the order in which they appear in the familiar, (2002-2012), CA standards documents taken from the state's website. The Common Core Standards are listed directly below the older standards with which they align. The documents are printed in colored fonts with the old standards in red (they go away), the Common Core Standards in black (they will guide instruction and be assessed formally by the consortium), and the California additions in blue. It is easy to see what stays, what is gone, and what needs to be "tweaked" or adjusted.

  • Grades Kindergarten through 6, both English Language Arts and Mathematics content is in a single booklet: $14.99 each; purchase of additional copies of same grade level, $9.99 each, plus shipping costs
  • Grades 6 through 8, Mathematics standards: $9.99 each; purchase of additional copies of same grade level, $7.99 each, plus shipping costs

Standards maps: English Language Arts (grades Kindergarten through 12) and Mathematics (grades Kindergarten through 8)
Each of these maps has been designed to give the classroom teacher a two-page overview of the grade-level Common Core standards in the content area. Teachers can use this overview to

  1. "double-dip" by combining skills during lessons;
  2. keep track of standards taught, those yet to be taught, and those needing additional instruction/review; and
  3. Grasp the overall structure of grade-level content, as well as content similarities and differences across grade levels - if the teacher has maps for grade levels below and above his/her own.

English Language Arts: the first sheet lists the standards' clusters (Foundational Skills for grades K through 5 only; Reading Informational Text; Reading Literature; Language; and Writing). The sheets have been aligned so that teachers can see how the literature and informational text standards are closely related and, across grade levels, how the complexity gradually increases toward the College and Career Ready Standards. The second sheet lists Speaking and Listening standards and Text Complexity considerations.
Mathematics: the first sheet lists the standards' clusters (Number Operations, Base 10, Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, Geometry, etc.). The second sheet lists the Mathematics Practices that span all grade levels, the critical focus areas for that grade level, and any appendix tables that apply specifically to the grade level.

  • Grade-level maps, 2-page maps for each subject for each grade level, $14.99 each; individual purchasers may make copies for their own use, once maps have been purchased)
